Platform for learning and learning disorders

Who we are: The Platform for Learning and Learning Disorders is a research and knowledge hub developed at the University of Zurich. It was established within the University Research Priority Program “Adaptive Brain Circuits in Development and Learning” and aims to connect scientific research with practical support.

The platform brings together the expertise of leading research groups in dyslexia and dyscalculia. Its mission is to provide reliable, evidence-based information and to promote educational success and well-being for individuals affected by learning disorders.

Our work: Dyslexia and dyscalculia are among the most common developmental disorders affecting learning. In almost every classroom, some children are affected. These disorders can influence academic achievement, self-confidence, and educational pathways, and they frequently co-occur with one another or with other developmental conditions.

The platform supports children and adolescents, adults with learning disorders, parents, teachers, educational and healthcare professionals, as well as researchers. Each target group can access tailored information, resources, and services designed to meet its specific needs.

Particular attention is given to children and adolescents. Age-appropriate information, videos, practical learning strategies, and accessible explanations help young people better understand learning disorders and manage challenges in everyday school life. Personal stories from individuals with lived experience provide valuable insights and help children and adolescents realize that they are not alone.

The platform offers evidence-based information on dyslexia and dyscalculia, guidance on assessment and support options, educational programs, and outreach activities. At the same time, it promotes knowledge exchange between research and terrain by translating scientific findings into accessible resources and bringing practical questions back into research.

By bringing together scientific expertise, assessment, education, and practical guidance, it aims to improve outcomes for individuals with learning disorders and those who support them.
